Ingredients for American chopsuey
Hakka Noodles- use 1/2 bunch of noodles
1 medium Onion – sliced
1 medium capsicum sliced
1 tsp chopped garlic
1/2 cup julienned carrots
1/2 cup thinly sliced French beans
1/2 cup shredded cabbage
1 tsp red chilli flakes
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp white vinegar
1 cup corn flour
1 tbsp oil
oil for deep frying & water to boil the noodles.
Boil the noodles in water for 10 minutes until soft. Add some salt and oil, make sure you don’t overcook them.
Once cooked, drain and let cool.
For the gravy:
take a sauce pan, add some oil and saute Garlic. Then saute Onions and Bell Peppers followed by beans, carrots and lastly cabbage. Let cook well, then add Ketchup, Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Pepper, Chilli Flakes and 1 glass Water and let simmer for 5 minutes. In a small bowl take 1 tbsp of Corn Flour and mix with half cup water, slowly mix this slurry into the sauce pan while stirring continuously. Add water to adjust consistency. American chopsuey gravy is ready.
Once your noodles have cooled down, mix with corn flour and deep fry on medium flame until crispy.
now your American chopsuey is ready to be served in a Plate!
Wasn’t that easy? This comes as a very handy dish when you’re expecting guests as the noodles can be fried in advance and the gravy hardly take 5 minutes to prepare!
