Hope you all had a wonderful festival time with your near and dear ones. In the hustle-bustle of life, we forget how important some people are in life and Diwali gives us a perfect opportunity to catch up with all those people without the stress of work. But this also leads to a session of guilt because of all those sweets, desserts and deep-fried snacks that we’ve had, thanks to Indian cuisine for all those unwanted calories. While, I admit that overeating and indulging beyond a certain point is really unhealthy, but at the same time I can totally understand how difficult it is to resist that mouth-watering Diwali platter and to top it off- unending pressure from your friends/family to finish every item on your plate! Finally, you come to finish your food and there comes a refill. Relatable right? You are not the only one sailing in this boat, almost everyone is!
Let bygones be bygones. Now you need to focus on what can be done to undo this. Post-Diwali Detox is the solution. While it may technically not be able to undo all the junk that’s gone into your tummy but it will definitely make you feel lighter, rejuvenated and energized. I have followed some detox programs earlier and I must say they have worked well for me. But this time, since I wanted to share this idea with you, I thought of taking some ideas from an expert- Neomee shah

So here’s my interview with her :
Q. What exactly is a Detox and is it necessary to go for a Post Diwali Detox?
A. Detox stands for detoxification. This means cleansing the blood which is done by removing impurities in the blood and liver where the toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, liver, lymphatic system and skin. However, when these systems are compromised, the impurities aren’t properly eliminated and the body gets adversely affected. Hence Detox programs can help revive the body’s natural cleansing process. Coming to Diwali, it’s very natural to indulge in sweets, chocolates, processed food items, and oily savories, as a result of all this junk food the blood gets overloaded with impurities. To cleanse this in the most natural way possible, Diwali Detox is a great idea. This way you can balance your health post the celebrations.
Detoxification has been practiced for centuries by cultures all around the world including Ayurveda and Chinese medicine systems. It should, in fact, be a part of our Lifestyle to keep us healthy and fit. Detoxification is all about resting, cleansing and nourishing the body from inside out and then feeding it with healthy nutrients.
Q. Is it safe to follow Detox for everyone in general? Who should avoid going for a Detox?
A. Detoxification is generally safe for everyone besides children, nursing mothers, elderly people and patients with chronic diseases. If so, then it is better to consult with your nutritionist so they can guide you with an appropriate diet plan according to your health condition.
Q. How long should the duration of these Detox programs be?
A. Many programs follow a program of 3-7 days because the body needs some time to clean the blood. Depending on your individual needs, you may decide the duration yourself.
Q. What are the first steps towards Detox?
A. Firstly lighten up for toxin load. Eliminate alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, refined sugar, saturated fats and inflammatory foods like gluten and dairy. Also, cut down on animal protein as too much meat and poultry can be problematic. All of these act as toxins in your body and are obstacles to your healing process. Another hindrance to good health is stress which creates toxins and slows down the detoxification process in the liver.
Hence practice Yoga or Meditation to manage your stress.
Q. What is the second step towards Detox?
A. The first step was elimination, so the second step is- what needs to be included in your diet.
- Eat plenty of fiber like brown rice, organically grown fresh vegetables and fruits like beetroot, cabbage, broccoli, artichokes, spirulina. These are excellent detoxifying foods!
- Cleanse the liver by drinking Green Tea, Dandelion Root Tea, Milk thistle, Beetroot juice. Also consume citrus fruits and cruciferous vegetables like Kale, Spinach, Cauliflower, and soaked walnuts.
- Take vitamin C which helps the body produce Glutathione- A liver compound that drives away toxins.
- Drink plenty of flavored water. Just add your favorite fruits, vegetables or herb/spice like cumin seeds, fennel, chia and keep sipping on it throughout the day.
- For Kidney cleanse, include juices like Cranberry juice, ginger turmeric tea, watermelons, and soaked pumpkin seeds.
Q. Can you give us a Sample Detox program that is easy to follow for all in general?
A. Definitely, this detox program should help all the readers in cleansing their systems for sure!
